Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) will now charge a token fee at the Green park terminus. The fee will be charged For accessing various services at the terminus.
NMS Transport and public works director engineer Michael Ochieng’ said the fee will be used as a drop-off and pick-up point for Matatus operating along Ngong and Lang’ata roads.
“The park will operate a certain fee, a token fee, which enables its sustainability. It will translate to what activities will be within the park, what traders will sell, (and) use of the ablution blocks, among others,”
If you put an ablution block to be completely free you are killing it. How will it be sustained? We have the toilets in the CBD where people pay (to use) and the money is used to keep the place clean and pay those who keep them clean.” said Mr.Ochieng’
The fee will be charged for the use of ablution blocks, advertisement spaces, and traders selling their wares at the terminus. It is noted that the fee will be used in maintaining the terminus, keeping the environment clean by a management team.
Mr. Ochieng’ also said that the fee will be structured in a way certain people such as the elderly and physically challenged will access the toilet services free of charge.
Despite being a matatu terminus, there will be a dispensary, supermarket, restaurant, and a place for commuters and the matatu crew.
Already two ablution blocks and a police station have been set up.
