Kisumu Yacht Club Closed Over Rising Cases Of Covid-19

The iconic Kisumu Yacht Club has been closed for 14 days following a rise in Covid-19 infections in Kisumu County in the last few days. Kisumu has been topping the chart of counties with new infections with the landing of the Indian variant.

The Yacht Club says many hospitals in Kisumu are full of Covid-19 patients. “Many of our Club Members with Covid-19 are in isolation… Kisumu has become the new epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic.”

The closure of the club shows the seriousness of the pandemic in Kusmu with cases expected to hit the roof in the coming days according to the Ministry of Health.

Despite having been among the top counties with high infections, ironically, in the stats for Sunday by the Ministry of Health, of the 24 counties that registered positive cases, Kisumu was missing.

The Ministry of Health did not disclose why the results for Kisumu were missing on Sunday. Kenyans have been left to guess that given that Madaraka Day was held in Kisumu, projecting high figures daily could paint Statehouse in a bad light.

On Sunday, Nairobi County led the chart with 48 new cases followed by Uasin Gishu with 21 cases. Nyeri and Busia Counties had 18 and 17 cases respectively while Kisii had 9 cases. Nakuru and Kilifi Counties had 8 cases each while Meru had 4.

Meru, Narok, and Siaya Counties had 4 cases each followed by Murang’a, Nandi, and Trans Nzoia Counties with 3 new cases each. Elgeyo Marakwet, Mombasa and Homa Bay had 2 new cases each.

The counties of Kakamega, Kajiado, Kericho,Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Machakos, Mandera and Migori had one new Covid-19 case each.
