Traders who are ready and willing to set up their business at the Green Park Terminus in Nairobi have until Friday, 16th July 2021 to send in their applications.
This is after the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), announced on 12th July 2021 that they are planning to lease spaces at the Green Park terminal, formally known as Lunar Park, for commercial purposes or complimentary public transport services.
“This notice, therefore, invites the general public to submit expressions of interest to lease space at the Green Park Terminal for various commercial purposes or complimentary public transport services,” NMS Director General Major General Mohamed Badi said in the public notice released on Tuesday.
The notice further stated that those traders who were initially operating from the demolished Lunar Park and have an interest in leasing the new space at the terminal will not need to apply again.

According to the notice, the NMS plan will reserve 35 percent of space for women and youths, 5 percent for persons with disability, and the rest for the general public.
The NMS Director, Mohamed Badi said that the process of application includes using a plain sealed envelope which will then have to reach the office of the deputy director-general by July 16th, 2021.
Green Park Terminal will be the new terminal for public service vehicles that have been operating from the Nairobi Central Station (CBD).
Areas that will be leased include commercial office space, commercial retail spaces(shops), supermarkets spaces, eateries, and ablution cleaning and management services, entertainment establishment, vehicle cleaning services, vehicle fueling and servicing services, advertising spaces, and terminal cleaning services.
The Green Park Terminal which is the new stage will be the drop-off and pickup point for matatus plying the Ngong and Langata routes once it becomes operational.
According to the NMS report in December last year, an electronic system was to be integrated into the terminus outside the city center to keep matatu users informed on the time last-mile buses will be at the different pick-up stages.
The Green Park Terminal is a part of the ongoing NMS in partnership with the National Transport and Safety Authority (KeNHA), plans to relocate public vehicles (PSVs) from, and avoid congestion in the CBD.
Empty streets long walks in search of public transport, and bands stranded passengers in search of matatus were the hallmarks of June 18th, 2021 during the NMS third test run at the Green Park Terminus in Nairobi.

Director of roads and public works, engineer Michael Ochieng admitted that there were still some itching problems which he said would be handled through a multi-agency model involving NMS and the Kenya Railways before the Green Park Terminal becomes operational hopefully before the end of this year.
The NMS will be charging a token fee on traders selling their merchandise at the terminal or using advertisement space, a sum of 200 million shillings that Michal Ochieng stated will be used in maintaining the bus terminus.
