The Inspector general of police, Hillary Mutyambai has released a statement through his Twitter account dismissing the viral video which captured thieves in a motorcycle snatching the phone of a traffic police officer.
“Our investigations have revealed that a video circulating on social media insinuating to be of a police officer being snatched a phone is a manipulated video whose intention is malicious. We urge members of the public to ignore it” reads the tweet.
The official statement comes hours after the video which showed the thieves taking the police offers the phone in a broad daylight circulated on almost all the social media platforms leaving many Kenyans wondering what will become of them now that even a police officer who is supposed to be protecting them is also a target of the thieves.

Senior Counsel Ahmed Nasir Abdullahi however, dismissed the National police statement and in a reply to the inspector’s tweet said, “Very silly, buy the policeman a new phone and trace the culprits instead of making these laughable excuses”.
Many Kenyans have also not been satisfied with the National police statement citing that this could just be a cover-up to avoid more questions and pressure from the public.
