SuperSport viewers on DStv can look forward to seeing all the action from the PGA Tour’s Shriners Children’s Open at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas from Thursday 7 to Sunday 10 October 2021.
SuperSport is the ultimate destination for golf fans, with an unparalleled selection of an action from around the world.
This will be the 39th edition of the Shriners Children’s Open, which was first held back in 1983 as the Panasonic Las Vegas Pro-Celebrity Classic. It has gone through various iterations down the years but remains a tournament played annually in October in ‘Sin City.
Last year’s edition was held without fans due to the Covid-19 pandemic and ended in a three-man playoff, with Martin Laird taking home the Howard Hughes Trophy. He defeated Austin Cook and Matthew Wolff with a 23-footer for birdie on the second playoff hole to win.
“We are extremely excited to announce that we will be welcoming fans back to TPC Summerlin for this year’s tournament,” executive director Patrick Lindsey said in a statement. “And we cannot wait to see our fans back on the course cheering on their favorite golfers and supporting Shriners Children’s Open.”
Laird, who first won the Shriners Open in 2009, entered the 2020 tournament on a sponsor’s exemption. He started ranked at 358 in the world before winning the Shriners Open. The last time he had been a PGA Tour winner was seven years prior. “This might be the best one because it’s been a while,” Laird said after his fourth career tour victory “I’m going to really enjoy this one.”
The 38-year-old Scot will return to Vegas and hope to become a three-time winner of this tournament – a club that currently only has one member, American Jim Furyk, after his triumphs in 1995, 1998, and 1999.
In fact, the past four winners of the Shriners Open will be present in 2021, with Laird joined by 2020 winner Kevin Na, 2019 champion Bryson DeChambeau and 2018 titlist Patrick Cantlay.
“We are thrilled to have such a high quality field at this year’s Shriners Children’s Open, with the past four champions all present. Golf fans in Las Vegas and those watching at home can look forward to a world-class display of the sport,” added Patrick Lindsey.
The TPC Summerlin is a 7,255-yard par 71 course. The purse for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is $6.6million.
