Top 5 Events That Defined 2021 As It Melts Away

Kenya

The year 2021 is coming to an end. What a year. Huh! As it comes to an end, what are some of the events that defined this year in Kenya?

There are several events that happened in 2021 in Kenya. We have just sampled 5 which to some, they may mean nothing.

Covid19

The pandemic has been ruling the world since 2020. It is still on. It has changed lives and redefined economies. 2021, just like 2020, people lost jobs, lives, and livelihoods.

Currently, the government of Kenya is struggling to implement the mandatory vaccination of people against COVID-19 by denying the unvaccinated some basic services. But, will it work?

The CBC

The controversial Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) was fully implemented during this year (2021). It is a curriculum that many have been against but Magoha Son of Magoha has told them to swallow a razor blade.

Parents across the country are still complaining about the crazy assignments that CBC gives their kids. Teachers on the other hand say they equally don’t fully understand how it works but just floating in there.

The Fall of The BBI

This is the year that Reggae was stopped by the courts. The much-hyped Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) that was to change the constitution of Kenya was stopped by the courts. Although some say it has resurrected in form of Azimio la Umoja.

Taming of mobile lenders

This year, the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) rolled out the law to regulate mobile money lenders. The lenders will now have to operate under the regulations of the Central Bank. They have also been barred from accessing people’s contacts.

The lifting of the curfew

The dusk to dawn curfew that had been in place for more than a year was lifted by President Uhuru Kenyatta. The curfew saw businesses disrupted, people shot and injured by the police, and lives changed.
