After years of public service Hon. Charles Keter (Devolution) alongside his colleague John Munyes (Ministry of Petroleum and Mining) have resigned in their capacities as Cabinet Ministers to pursue political ambitions.
Keter has announced his quest to run for the Kericho gubernatorial seat on a United Democratic Alliance party ticket.
“I have tendered my resignation to President Uhuru Kenyatta. I am also complying with a circular that was issued by the Head of Public Service last week dated January 28, 2022, requiring all state and public officers who are not exempted by the provisions of the Elections Act 2011, from resigning from their offices to vacate their offices,” Keter stated.
Keter’s Petroleum colleague, Munyes, also quit to focus on his bid to become the next Governor of Turkana County.

“With a lot of humility, I want to reiterate my appreciation to the president for the honor bestowed on me. With diligence, commitment and determination I served as cabinet secretary for Energy and petroleum until 2018 when I was reappointed to the energy portfolio.” Said Keter
Charles Keter and John Munyes are the first cabinet secretaries to take this bold step of hanging boots in order to chase political ambitions. This is not the first time Keter is resigning from senior public portfolios.
In 2015, he resigned as Kericho Senator to take up a cabinet post, following an appointment by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
All civil servants seeking political positions must resign by February 9, six months before the upcoming general election on August 9th, according to the IEBC.
