Murang’a women representative, Sabina Chege, has failed to appear before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) Electoral code of conduct Enforcement Committee, citing health conditions. Her ‘vote rigging’ allegation case was to be heard on Tuesday 22nd Feb, 2022 in the morning before the IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati.
Through her team of learned lawyers, Senior Counsels Otiende Omolo, James Orengo, and Mr. Oloo Martin, Sabina Chege asked for another suitable date explaining that she is unwell and currently admitted to the Nairobi Hospital.
S.C Otiende Omolo, who happens to be the Rarieda Member of Parliament, tabled a letter from Dr. Eric Munene confirming that indeed, Sabina Chege is hospitalized and would not make it to the scheduled meeting.
“Allow me to introduce a letter to confirm that the responded is indispose and was admitted on February 16 at Nairobi Hospital.” Senior Council Otiende Omolo.
Otiende Omolo also hinted that they have already moved to the constitutional court to get a clear interpretation on whether the IEBC’s Electoral code of conduct Enforcement Committee, chaired by Wafula Chebukati, had jurisdiction over the matter at hand.

It was at this point that the committee had to adjourn for fifteen minutes just to consider the issues raised by Sabina Chege’s lawyers.
Sabina Chege found herself at crossroads with IEBC after she insinuated that Jubilee rigged the 2017 Presidential elections. She was urging Raila Odinga’s supporters in Isibunye, Vihiga County, to turn up in large numbers and register as voters when she had a slip of the tongue and said something that insinuates that the 2017 general election was rigged in favor of Jubilee.
“Kule central nimesikia hapa wengine wakisema hapa tuliwaibia. Kuna kaukweli kidogo. Lakini mjue kama tulijua kuiba si hata hii tutafanya nini? Alafu…alafu…” (In central I’ve heard some people here saying we stole from them. There is some truth there. But you people should know that if we knew how to steal, what will we do this time?)
IEBC summoned her immediately to appear before the Electoral code of conduct Enforcement Committee for questioning, which she did.
