What Is Happening On The Ground In Ukraine?

Russia has invaded Ukraine after Russian President Vladimir Putin conducted a special military operation in the Eastern Ukraine region. In a video from Ukraine border Guard, Russian military vehicles were seen entering Ukraine through Crimea.

Announcing the military operation, the Russian President warned other countries that any attempt to interfere with the Russian action would lead to “consequences you have never seen”. Putin said.

The ongoing crisis in Ukraine roots from the prolonged war between Ukraine and Russia in 2014 when pro-Russian and anti-government rebels began seizing some towns of Crimea. Crimea is a region of Ukraine that’s under hostile Russian occupation.

When Russian military troops invaded Crimea Ukraine’s response was peaceful. They did not respond aggressively they wanted a peaceful negotiation. Things got ugly in July 2021 when the Ukrainian government set an offensive push to the Russian rebels once and for all. Russia responded by attacking Ukraine with air missiles, a civilian airliner with 298 people on board in eastern Ukraine was shot down. 15 crew and 283 passengers, including 38 Australian citizens and residents, were killed

However, Putin denies the invasion, evidence shows that in December 2021, Russia issued two treaties that demanded Ukraine not to be granted North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) membership and that the alliance NATO troops and military hardware granted to Ukraine to be retrieved back from eastern Europe failure to which they threatened to give an unspecified military response.

The fight between the Russian rebels and Ukrainian forces there has left more than 14,000 dead. The whole world is supporting Ukraine in these hard times including France President Emmanuel Macron.

“France strongly condemns Russia’s decision to wage war on Ukraine. Russia must end its military operations immediately,” he said in a tweet on Thursday. “France stands in solidarity with Ukraine. It stands with Ukrainians and is working with its partners and allies to end the war.”
