Girls Outshine Boys In Languages In The 2021 KCPE

Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) 2021 has been released on 28th March 2022, by the Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha. A total of 1.2 million candidates sat the 2021 KCPE examination.

According to Professor George Magoha, the 2021 KCPE candidates attained gender parity with boys at 50.28 percent and girls at 49.72 percent.

However, girls performed well in subjects such as Kiswahili and English language compared to boys who did well in STEM subjects including mathematics, sign language, science, and religious education.

The CS further said that because 12 counties registered more females than females in 2021 as compared to 2020 when the number was 20, girls have performed well.

Although the top ten positions have been dominated by males, girls have still managed to appear on top. The first female was Momanyi Ashley Kerubo from Makini School taking the second position with 427 marks.

Four other girls namely Kwoma Charity Bunyanzi from Holy Family Misikhu, Mbugua Sharon Wairimu Muteti from Emmanuel Academy, Muteti Shantel Ndinda from Kitengela International School, and Wekesa Naomi from White Star Academy, came in the third position in a tie of six with 426 marks.

In the 2020 KCPE, females took the first eight slots including the first three. The performance in the languages was also outstanding just like in the 2021 KCPE.

As compared to 2020, six papers including English composition, Kiswahili Lugha, Kenya sign language composition, and science and social studies had an improved performance while three papers dropped in performance – Mathematics, English Language.

According to the 2020 results, 11,857 candidates scored between 400-500 while 315,275 candidates scored between 300-399. 578,197 other candidates attained a score of between 200-29 marks.
