The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed that Kenyans will have to choose a president among 55 candidates. Of the 55, a total of 14 are with political parties, one from a coalition, and 40 are independent candidates.
At the same time, the IEBC has confirmed that 244 gubernatorial aspirants will be contesting this year. Of the 244, a total of 167 are with political parties while 77 of them will be running as independent candidates. The headache now lines with the ballot papers.

But as the election nears, Civil Societies under the Angaza Movement umbrella, as well as other stakeholders have been asking the questions as to whether the country is ready to hold a credible general election. According to the civil societies, the IEBC has not shown the commitment to being ready for these elections.
