The Independent Electorate and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has revealed that the August general elections will have the highest number of registered voters and polling stations. A total of 46,232 polling stations have been registered in this year’s election, a 13 percent increase from the 40,883 polling stations registered during the 2017 elections.
At the same time, the number of registered voters in the august polls has also risen to 22,120,458 compared to 19,611,423 registered in 2017. The number of eligible voters has also increased by 10.49 per cent to 27,857,598 from 25,212,096 in the last election.
The number of Kenyans who own National Identity Cards (ID) also rose by16.8 percent to 29,566,678 this year, compared to 25,323,059 recorded in 2017. However, the number of registered voters compared to the ID issues has dipped to 74.82 per cent this year from 77.44 per cent in 2017.

The number of voters in Diaspora has also increased to 10,444 from 4,223 in 2017. On the other hand, 7,483 voters in prisons were registered this year compared to 5,182 individuals registered in 2017.
This year, the number of youths aged 18 – 34 has recorded a 5.3 decline to 39.84 per cent. At the same time, the number of female and male youth has declined by 7.75 and 2.89 percent, respectively.
IEBC postponed the certification and gazettement of the register of voters (ROV) on 8th June 2022, to “address critical audit findings and recommendations’’ which have been finalized.
“The Commission is pleased to announce that KPMG has completed the ROV [Register of Voters] audit, and the final report was submitted to the Commission on 18th June 2022. Based on preliminary audit findings shared by KPMG, the Commission implemented some of the recommendations, and it is in the course of finalizing the few remaining ones,” said Chebukati.
