SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv can look forward to the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which will be held in Morocco from 2 to 23 July.

Football never stops on DStv and GOtvSuperSport is the only true home of football in Africa, offering a range and depth of action that no other rival can match – it’s literally ‘Unbeatable Football’! If you’re going to spend your money on something, it may as well be on the best football in the world.

The 2022 WAFCON gets underway on the evening of Saturday 2 July with the opening match, as hosts Morocco take on Burkina Faso in a Group A match at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

The Atlas Lionesses are looking to make a big impact on home soil, though French coach Reynald Pedros has admitted, in the wake of a recent friendly 1-1 draw with Zambia, that his team is not quite up to speed.

“It’s a good test. The Zambian team plays well with the ball. We knew it was going to be a difficult match, and it’s always interesting to come up against this kind of team,” said Pedros, who added: “We are not ready yet. But we will continue to work and progress to be ready for the tournament.”

Sunday 3 July is a busy day, as Senegal faces Uganda in Group A, before back-to-back Group B clashes from Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, as Cameroon faces Zambia and Tunisia tackles Togo.

Monday 4 July brings action from Group C at Stade Moulay Hassan in Rabat, with the first match between Nigeria and South Africa considered an early meeting of arguably the two favorites for the title – with the Super Falcons having beaten Banyana Banyana in the final of the previous WAFCON in 2018 – before two debutantes clash in the shape of Burundi and Botswana.

Banyana coach Desiree Ellis is hopeful that her team can lay down a marker against Nigeria but wants the team not to lose focus on the bigger pictures of qualifying for the 2023 Women’s World Cup and trying to win the WAFCON title.

“We are grateful for the team to have made it to this point. I implore them to go out there and play their hearts out because Sasol and other legions of fans will be watching them closely and cheering them on from home,” said Ellis. “As a South African, I want them to bring that cup home and secure that place to be a part of the Fifa Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023.”
