Equity Turnover Shrinks, Kenyan Shilling Still Under Attack

According to the stats compiled by Dyer and Blair Investment Bank, the Kenyan shilling is still performing dismally against the US Dollar, British Pound, and the Euro. On Thursday, the local currency weakened against all the three major currencies.

The shilling, on Thursday, weakened 0.06 percent to close at 118.52 against the US Dollar. (-4.75% year-to-date). It also shed 0.11 percent to close at 142.07 against the Pound (+6.57% year-to-date). Against the Euro, it weakened 0.30 percent to close at 121.02 (+5.45% year-to-date).

Kenyan Stock Market

Total equity turnover shrunk by 14.24 percent to close at USD 3.44 MN (KES 407.37 MN) compared to yesterday’s turnover of USD 4.01 MN (KES 475.00 MN).

NSE 20 and NASI edged up by 0.21 and 0.93 percent to close at 1,675.02 and 135.07 respectively.

Foreign investors assumed a net buying position by accounting for 66.33 percent of total market purchases and 50.16% of total market sales.
