Kenyan Shilling Falls Against The Dollar, Euro And The Pound

The Kenyan Shilling has continued with its weakening mission, hitting the lowest against the US Dollar on Thursday. The local currency also weakened against both the Euro and the Pound.

Exchange Rate Performance

The shilling weakened 0.02 percent against the US Dollar to close at 123.16 (-8.86 percent year-to-date). It also weakened against the Pound by 0.09 percent to close at 149.54 (+1.66 percent year-to-date). The weakening continued into the Euro with 0.21 percent to close at 130.87 (-2.25 percent year-to-date).

Kenyan Stock Market

Total equity turnover declined by 78.57 percent to close at USD 0.79 MN (KES 97.66 MN) compared to yesterday’s turnover of USD 3.70 MN (KES 455.75 MN).

NSE 20 and NASI dropped by 0.10 percent and 0.05 percent to close at 1,654.71 and 128.09 respectively.

Foreign investors assumed a net selling position by accounting for 32.81% of total market purchases and 40.44 percent of total market sales.
