NSSF Gives Ksh 1.5 Million Towards SOYA Awards

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has contributed 1.5 million shillings towards the sponsorship of the 19th edition of the Sports Personality of the Year Awards (SOYA) set for January 20, 2023, in Nairobi.

Together with other sponsors such as the Communication Authority of Kenya, Lotto Foundation, Safaricom PLC, Kenya Pipeline Corporation, and the Kenya Academy of Sports, SOYA received more than 5 million shillings towards the sponsorship.

Speaking during the sponsorship launch event at Sarova Stanely Hotel, Dr. Christopher Khisa, the  PR and communications manager at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) acknowledged the role SOYA plays in identifying and rewarding talents in Kenya.

Dr. Khisa called on sportsmen and women across the country to think of their future by developing a savings culture through NSSF and other entities. “The truth is, you might not earn as a sportsman forever but life has to go on. Whatever little you find, save and it will save you when the rainy days come,” he said.

The event was also attended by the Founder of SOYA, Dr. Paul Tergat who expressed gratitude to the sporting fraternity for their great efforts in making a comeback to the spotlight through exemplary performance in various sporting activities.

“The 19th edition of the SOYA gala celebrates the continued resilience of our sportsmen and women who have continued o regain traction and display their staying power as the world pushes through a myriad of challenges,” said Dr. Tergat.

As the SOYA Marks 19 years of consistency and rewarding talent, the event will be held at the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC) on January 20. Organizers say that many surprises have been lined up for those in the sporting world given the many events that took place.
