Kenyan Shillings Weakens The Most In History On Wednesday

The Kenyan shilling has sustained its weakening trend against major currencies in the world. Against the US Dollar, the local currency has weakened the most, falling to the lowest in the history of the currency.

On Wednesday, the shilling weakened by 0.20 percent to close the day at 128.36 shillings (-4.04 percent year-to-date). At the same time, the local currency weakened against the Pound by 0.17 percent to close at 154.14 (-3.82 percent year-to-date).

The shilling also ended the day by weakening against the Euro by 0.35 percent to close at 136.94 (-4.32 percent year-to-date).

Kenyan Stock Market

Total equity turnover rose by 422.50 percent to close at USD 5.68 million (728.64 million shillings) compared to yesterday’s turnover of USD 1.09 million (139.45 million shillings).

NSE 20 and NASI dropped by 1.46 percent and 3.63 percent to close at 1,605.63 and 119.19 respectively.

Foreign investors assumed a net selling position by accounting for 19.14 percent of total market purchases and 47.40 percent of total market sales.
