KUCCPS Issues An Urgent Update Concerning The University Application Portal

Moi University

Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) has clarified that it has not opened the university application portal as was alleged by a section of the media.

KUCCPS has called on candidates who sat their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2022 “to be patient because the portal is yet to be opened.”

The clarification comes after word went around that the placement body had opened the portal for Kenyans to revise their courses, choose new courses, and apply for other universities of their choice.

Candidates who sat their KCSE have become restless for unlike in other years, KUCCPS has delayed opening the portal. More worrying is also the fact that the body has not released approved university courses as is the norm.

“We would like to inform the public that our portal for university applications is yet to be opened. Once the date for the applications is confirmed, we shall announce it through our website and our social media channels,” said part of the statement.

In regards to the cutoff points for those who will qualify under the government sponsorship,  KUCCPS says the announcement will be made “in due course” and that no such announcement has been made.

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) for 2022 was released in January this year and it was expected that by now, candidates would already be aware of the universities they are supposed to join.

There have been a lot of speculations about the whole issue. At some point, an official from the Ministry of Education claimed that those who scored grades C+ will not receive government sponsorship. This means about 72,000 candidates would be locked out and be forced to fund their own university fees.

The Ministry of Education has also remained mute and has not come out to explain the delay in releasing the date.
