Francis Ogolla, Chief Of Defense Forces, Is Dead

The Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla is dead. President William Ruto has confirmed the announcement, saying the country has lost a dedicated military man.

Ogolla died after a chopper he was traveling in alongside other officials crashed in Kaben, Marakwet East on Thursday. The chopper had 12 passengers, all of them military officials. All of them are dead except one.

Ogolla took over as CDF on April 28, 2023. The chopper is said to have been carrying 12 people including officers of the rank of General when it went down. Witnesses said it burst into flames on crashing.

There was only one survivor believed to be a photographer, other officers said.

The nation is coming to terms with the death of Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla. Ogolla was confirmed to have died in a chopper crash in Kaben, Marakwet East on Thursday.

Ogolla was named the new Chief of Defence Forces in changes in the military in April 2023. He took over from General Robert Kibochi who departed after attaining the mandatory exit age of 62.

Before the appointment, General Ogolla was the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces.
