Hackathon

The Africa Bitcoin Conference that was held in Nairobi brought together global giants in the cryptocurrency world. During the historic event, Block, a global technology company focusing on financial services, announced the winners of the highly anticipated TBD Hackathon.

Here is the list of the stars of the conference:

Blink

This is an invention by Emmanuel Kufre, a decentralized wallet for freelancers. This invention emerged as the $15,000 in BTC grand prize winner.

The app enables freelancers to accept global payments seamlessly, addressing a critical need in Africa’s $28 billion gig economy.

tbDEX Go

This is an impressive innovation by Andrew Glago and Eloke Ikiliagwu that simplifies payments for travelers. It secured the second prize of $10,000 in Bitcoin.

The app connects Africa with a local payment solution tailored for travelers and tourists, bridging the gap in financial accessibility for international visitors.

Igbigi

Achego Tamunobelema and Fabari Agbora’s Igbigi innovated Igbigi, an app that facilitates private and instant money transfers. They won $5,000 in Bitcoin. The app enables users to perform instant app-to-bank and app-to-app money transfers while prioritizing privacy, offering a secure and efficient alternative to traditional payment systems.

Participants in the hackathon tackled crucial challenges, including limited access to banking, high transaction fees, and inefficient cross-border payments. Each team made up of 1-2 developers, used the tbDEX SDK to build their payment applications within a sandbox environment.
