LTWP Cuts CO2 Emissions Further, Increases More Investments Into Communities

Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP), Africa’s largest wind farm, today launched its 2024 Sustainability Report. The report, titled “Beyond Turbines: Impacting Kenya, Empowering People,” details LTWP’s 2024 impact that includes delivering 10.89% of Kenya’s grid power, cutting 574,547 tonnes of CO2 emissions, and investing KSh 875 million in community initiatives over six years.

Mrs. Joy Brenda Mdivo, Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) Chairman, commended LTWP’s contributions to Kenya’s economic and green energy agenda: “The Lake Turkana Wind Power is evidence of progress for Kenya’s energy sector. It exemplifies the transformative power of public-private partnerships in delivering clean, affordable energy and driving sustainable development that directly benefits our citizens,” he said.

The 2024 report showcases how LTWP’s operations extend beyond electricity generation to fostering community well-being, promoting local economic growth, and championing environmental protection. “The 2024 Sustainability Report reveals LTWP’s commitment to powering Kenya’s future, not just with clean energy, but with tangible, positive impact. We are proud to showcase that we are empowering people and driving sustainable growth in Kenya,” said George Njenga, LTWP Executive Chairman.

“LTWP is a successful case study of how a project of this magnitude can have an impact community, local employment, and environmental stewardship is actively shaping Kenya’s socio-economic landscape and propelling its ambitious green energy goals forward,” added Willem Dolleman, Winds of Change (WoC) Chairman.

With Kenya setting an ambitious goal to achieve a 100% green energy transition by 2030, the report showcases LTWP’s contribution towards this target.
