The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has released its latest five-day weather outlook, warning Kenyans to prepare for varying weather patterns across the country between Tuesday, September 23, and Saturday, September 27.
Kenya Met highlights the likelihood of rainfall, strong winds, and fluctuating temperatures in several parts of the country, while other regions are expected to experience predominantly sunny conditions.
According to Kenya Met, a number of major towns and counties will experience rainfall over the course of the week. These include Nairobi, Kiambu, Kericho, Eldoret, Nakuru, Naivasha, Kisumu, and Lodwar, where showers are likely to occur intermittently during both day and night.
The department has urged residents in these areas to take necessary precautions, especially motorists and farmers, as wet conditions may affect road safety and agricultural activities.
In addition to rainfall, the forecast warns of strong southerly to south-easterly winds in parts of the coastal region and other inland towns, including Machakos and Lodwar. The winds are expected to reach speeds of more than 25 knots, which may pose risks to small boats and other marine activities.
Fishermen and residents living along the shoreline have been advised to exercise caution, particularly in the evenings when winds tend to intensify.

For counties in the Central Highlands and adjacent areas, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi, the first two days of the week (Tuesday and Wednesday) will be largely sunny during the day.
However, changes are expected from Thursday onwards, with sunny mornings giving way to afternoon showers in scattered areas. Nights are expected to remain partly cloudy throughout the week.
Temperatures in this region will range widely, with maximums of 32°C during the day and minimums dipping to about 5°C at night.
Counties in the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and western Kenya are expected to receive some of the most intense rainfall during the forecast period. Showers accompanied by thunderstorms are predicted for Kisumu, Kisii, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot. These rains are expected to persist both day and night throughout the week.
The maximum daytime temperatures in these counties will be about 32°C, while the lowest nighttime readings are expected to be around 8°C.
Meanwhile, residents in Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and Tana River counties are expected to experience generally sunny days and cloudy nights throughout the five days. The maximum daytime temperature in these areas is projected to reach 32°C, while minimum temperatures at night will hover around 20°C.
For the eastern and southeastern counties, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River, weather conditions will be fairly stable. The forecast shows sunny intervals dominating the days, while nights will remain mostly cloudy. Maximum daytime temperatures will average around 34°C, with cooler nights dropping to about 11°C.
The forecast further indicates that Turkana and Samburu counties will enjoy sunny intervals and partly cloudy nights from Tuesday through Thursday. However, conditions will shift towards the end of the week, with showers expected on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Temperatures in this region will remain high, with daytime maximums hitting 37°C and minimums plunging to about 7°C at night.
For the arid north-eastern counties, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, the weatherman predicts largely hot and sunny conditions during the day, followed by cloudy skies at night. These areas are expected to record the highest daytime temperatures across the country, peaking at 39°C, while the coolest nights will see temperatures drop to around 15°C.
The Kenya Met has urged Kenyans to stay alert and plan their activities with the forecast in mind. Farmers have been encouraged to take advantage of the rains in western and Rift Valley regions to boost planting, while urban dwellers, particularly in Nairobi and Kisumu, have been advised to prepare for possible traffic disruptions due to wet weather. Coastal residents and fishermen are also advised to take caution against strong winds and rough seas.
The department emphasized that while these forecasts provide a general outlook, localized variations may occur, and it will continue to issue daily updates as weather conditions evolve.
