A dark cloud has fallen over the General Service Unit (GSU) Recce Company in Juja following the death of one of their officers in a tragic accident at the Kimbo camp in Kiambu County. Police Constable Benedict Juma Oduori lost his life on Saturday, October 25, 2025, after being electrocuted while washing his bicycle.
According to a police report from Chief Inspector Meshack Ikuthu, who is attached to the same camp, the officer was using an electric car wash machine to clean his personal bicycle when the accident occurred. Early indications suggest that he came into contact with an electric current from the machine, which resulted in the fatal electrocution.
A sentry on duty discovered Oduori lying unconscious near the car wash area while still holding the machine. He was immediately rushed to the camp dispensary for first aid. When his condition did not improve, he was referred to Kenyatta University Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival despite efforts to save him.
The sudden death of Constable Oduori has left his colleagues deeply saddened. Officers described him as disciplined, hardworking, and committed to his duties. His passing has cast a heavy mood over the camp and the wider GSU fraternity, with many struggling to come to terms with the tragic loss of a young and promising officer.
Police investigators have launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the accident. They are examining the car wash machine and the wiring in the area to establish whether there was a technical fault, poor grounding, or other factors that led to the electrocution. Officers have also been reminded to exercise caution when handling electrical equipment, especially in wet conditions.
A postmortem examination was conducted at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital to confirm the cause of death. The officer’s body has since been moved to the hospital mortuary as preparations for his burial begin.
