Wayne Cook, Managing Director of Del Monte Kenya Limited, hosted Susan Burns during her recent tour of the company’s expansive pineapple farm in Thika, in a visit that reaffirmed strong trade and investment ties between Kenya and the United States.
The high-level engagement underscored a shared commitment to protecting investors and fostering a stable, predictable business environment that supports long-term economic growth. Discussions focused on the importance of policy certainty, investment protection, and strengthening Kenya’s position as a preferred destination for global capital.
Del Monte Kenya, the country’s single largest exporter, plays a pivotal role in earning foreign exchange and sustaining thousands of direct and indirect jobs across its agricultural value chain. Its operations in Thika stand as one of the most significant agro-industrial investments in the region, supplying premium pineapple products to international markets, particularly the United States and Europe.
Speaking during the tour, Cook emphasized the company’s long-standing presence in Kenya and its continued confidence in the country’s economic potential. He noted that a supportive investment climate is essential for multinational firms to expand operations, deepen local sourcing, and create more employment opportunities.
Burns’ visit highlighted the importance the United States places on American investments in Kenya and the broader East African region. By engaging directly with key investors on the ground, the U.S. mission signaled its support for businesses that contribute meaningfully to economic development, trade growth, and community livelihoods.
The visit comes at a time when Kenya is keen to strengthen its export base and reinforce its reputation as a trusted global trade partner. With firms like Del Monte Kenya at the forefront, the country continues to leverage agribusiness as a cornerstone of its foreign exchange earnings and international trade relations.
