For 30-year-old Clinton Odhiambo Odanga, football has always been part of life.
“I’ve loved soccer since I was a kid,” he says.
That lifelong passion came full circle at the BetGr8 World Cup Kick-Off Watch Party held at Uhuru Park, where a simple fan competition turned into a life-changing moment.
Odanga walked away with a fully insured Spiro electric bike worth over KSh 160,000 after winning BetGr8’s high-energy Pepeta Challenge, one of the evening’s main fan engagement activities.
The challenge required participants to keep a football in the air for as long as possible. Odanga held his composure for an impressive 27 seconds, the longest record of the night.
“When my name was called, I was so excited. I didn’t expect it at all. I came just to enjoy the game and be part of the experience,” he said.
Odanga lives in Kinoo-Uthiru and is a graduate of Technical and Applied Physics from the Technical University of Kenya. Beyond academics, he has built a life around technology and entrepreneurship.
For the past five years, he has been running Vortex Inc., a virtual reality (VR) experience business based at Uhuru Park, where he charges KSh 150 per session to introduce visitors to immersive digital experiences.
Every day from noon until park closing, he engages customers, many of whom are encountering VR technology for the first time.
“It’s exciting because I get to meet different people and show them something new every day,” he says.
The Spiro e-bike prize, awarded during BetGr8’s World Cup activation, now adds a new layer to his entrepreneurial journey.
He believes it will directly support his work.
“This bike will help me move around more efficiently and give my business a boost. I’m already learning how to ride it,” he said.
Odanga has also downloaded the BetGr8 app and says he is exploring the platform while learning about responsible gaming.
“I’m taking time to understand how it works and how to bet responsibly,” he said.
The BetGr8 activation, delivered in partnership with Spiro, formed part of the brand’s World Cup campaign designed to reward fan participation and create immersive football experiences.
For Odanga, the night was more than a competition—it was a reminder that opportunity often comes when passion meets participation.
From a physics graduate running a VR business to a 27-second Pepeta Challenge winner, his journey captures the spirit of a generation building livelihoods through technology, creativity, and everyday moments of chance.
