The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially launched its electronic certificate platform, allowing candidates who sat the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination to access and download their certificates online.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, August 5, KNEC announced that the service is also available to candidates whose examination records are stored in its database from 1989 to 2025, significantly expanding access to digital academic credentials.
Through the new platform, eligible candidates can obtain an official digital copy of their KCSE certificate after completing identity verification and paying the required processing fee.
KNEC said the e-certificates can be used for a wide range of purposes, including university admissions, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) applications, international study opportunities, scholarships, bursary applications, internships, and employment.
“The e-certificate is issued directly by KNEC, is legally valid and officially recognised. It is instantly verifiable by any organisation, never expires and is secured using blockchain technology,” the council said.
How to Download Your KCSE E-Certificate
Applicants must first create an account on the KNEC e-certificate portal and verify their email address using a one-time password (OTP).
They will then be required to confirm their identity using their National Identity Card details before entering their KCSE index number, examination year, and examination type. The system will generate a preview of the certificate for verification.
Once candidates confirm that their personal details, including their name, school and examination results, are accurate, they will be prompted to pay a Ksh1,500 processing fee through the eCitizen platform.
After payment is confirmed, the digital certificate becomes available for download, is emailed directly to the applicant and remains accessible through the user’s online dashboard.
The platform supports certificates held in the KNEC database between 1989 and 2025, enabling thousands of former KCSE candidates to retrieve their academic documents digitally whenever required.
The initiative is expected to be particularly beneficial for individuals who have misplaced or lost their KCSE or Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) certificates, eliminating the need for lengthy replacement processes or physical visits to access their records.
The rollout forms part of the government’s ongoing digital transformation agenda aimed at improving the delivery of public services.
By moving certificate issuance online, KNEC hopes to make academic records easier to access, store and share while strengthening document security and simplifying certificate verification for universities, employers and other institutions.
