KNEC Announces Teacher Exam Results, Issues Warning To Colleges Over Unpaid Fees

Candidates who sat teacher education exams will have to collect their results from their colleges, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has said.

In a notice issued Thursday, October 15, the council confirmed that results for six teacher education assessments and examinations have been sent out to the institutions.

“The candidates who sat these assessments and examinations are advised to obtain the results from their colleges,” the notice read.

Not every college has received its batch, though. KNEC said it is holding back results for institutions that still owe assessment and examination fees.

Those colleges have already been told about the balances and urged to pay up, with their results to follow only once the arrears are cleared.

“Results for colleges with outstanding assessment and examination fee balances have been withheld pending settlement of the arrears. The affected colleges have been notified and advised to clear the balances to facilitate the release of their results,” the council stated.

The release covers three diploma programmes from the 2023 cohort: Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE), Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE) and Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE).

Three other qualifications from the 2025 cohort are also included: Diploma in Teacher Education (DTE), Diploma in Special Needs Education (DSNE) Parts I and II, and Teacher Certificate in Adult Education (TCAE).

Separately, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is working on changes to who can join teacher training. One plan would drop the minimum KCSE mean grade for diploma courses from C+ to C plain.

The reforms, first announced in May, would also lower the entry requirement to C- for persons with disabilities in some courses. They further propose recognising single teaching subjects, including the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) learning areas.
