Foreign Investors Account for 55.45% of NSE Turnover

Safaricom Ltd (NSE: SCOM) climbed one spot to close as the most traded stock, accounting for 34.26% of the total value traded. Equity Group Holdings Ltd. (NSE: EQTY) followed closely accounting for 30.72% of the days traded value.

Kapchorua Tea Co. Ltd. (NSE: KAPC) climbed to dominate the top gainers list, scaling 9.63% to KES 239.00; this is as agricultural stocks continue to resist unimpressive farm results and record a 45% growth in valuation. Unga Group Ltd (NSE: BAT) registered a similar 8.98% gain to KES 45.50, curving in as the day’s second best gainer.

Atlas Development & Support Services Ltd. (NSE: ADDS) dropped to claim the day’s top loser, shedding 9.62% to KES 7.05; as low oil prices continues to shrink expenditure in the global oil market. British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd. (NSE: BAT) followed a close second as it retreated by 9.17% to KES 753.00.

Foreign Investor Participation

Foreign investor participation accounted for a little more than half of Monday’s trading session accounting for 55.45% of total turnover against 44.55% local participation. On the back of a large net outflow of KES 142.67Mn on Friday last week, Monday was marked by a net inflow of KES 4.89Mn.

Foreign investors accounted for 55.45% of the NSE turnover as compared to 89.94% on Friday.

Foreign investors engaged in accumulative activities, resulting in net inflows worth KES 4.89Mn relative to large net outflows worth KES 142.67Mn on Friday last week.

Following on from Friday last week, Equity Holdings Limited (NSE: EQTY) was the day’s highest traded stock-recording a turnover of KES 67.91Mn-to account for 23.30% of total market activity and 42.01% of foreign activity, closely followed by Safaricom Limited (NSE: SCOM) with a turnover of KES 58.73Mn representing 20.15% of total market activity and 36.33% of foreign activity.

Equity Holdings Limited (NSE: EQTY) posted the day’s highest inflows worth KES 86.87Mn as investors accumulated whilst Safaricom Limited (NSE: SCOM) posted the day’s highest outflows worth KES 80.48Mn.
