IFMIS: Don’t Shoot the Messenger

BY · September 14, 2015 10:09 am

The integrated Financial Information Management System (IFMIS) has come under criticism in the recent past with many people dismissing the system and calling it incapable of stopping massive corruptions like what recently took place in the National Youth Service.

Those throwing these missiles at IFMIS have failed to understand that IFMIS is a messenger who brings to the limelight the ills that are being committed and that it is not prudent to shoot the messenger simply because he or she is bearing bad news.

On the contrary, the alleged ills at the National Youth Service were brought to the public by IFMIS after the system detected suspicious transactions that consisted of more than 30 transactions of different amounts.

IFMIS cannot stop corruption but it identifies corruption and it is up to the relevant authority to act on the issues raised by the system.
