Launch of Tuskys Internship Program

Internship programs in Kenya have traditionally targeted degree graduates. For every degree graduate, there are over 100 diploma and certificate graduates. Most of these mid-level college graduates do not get an opportunity to perfect their skills before employment. Tuskys internship Program will be seeking to provide a sustainable solution to this shortcoming.
Tuskys is now offering an opportunity for these young men and women to hone their skills within our business. This is a big internship program that will involve 1500 fresh diploma and certificate graduates every year for the next five years, therefore giving a chance to more than 7500 graduates in that period. The candidates will be taken through 4 weeks of classroom and practical training before deployment. The first lot of 100 graduates have already undergone training and have been deployed. Tuskys would like to thank the following partners for making the program a success: –
- Artemis Outsourcing Ltd.
- The National Youth Service
- Utalii College
- Amboseli Training Institute
- Rift Valley Institute of Science & Technology
- The University of Nairobi
- Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology
- Technical University of Kenya
Our Choice of these institutions as partners is advised by the fruitful and mutually n\beneficial working relationships we have enjoyed over the years. From the caliber of personnel, we have previously absorbed from them, we are confident in their capacity and the quality of their training programs.
Selection of the candidates is through our internship portal which is available on our website www.tuskys.com/internship. We intend to have a balanced selection process with 50% male and 50% female.
In order to make this a big success, Tuskys has set up a resource center along Ronald Ngala Street at a cost of KShs. 20 million. It will cost an average of KShs. 83,000 to train each candidate for 1 month and the candidates will be on allowance of KShs. 15,000 monthly. In total this is an investment of KShs 154 million annually.
Upon completion of the internship, Tuskys expects to absorb up to 50% of the candidates within its employment cadres. Other candidates will be well skilled for employment by other players within the retail industry. It is important to note that there is a significant shortage of skills within the entire retail industry. This program will go a long way in bridging that gap. The interns will have trained skills on how to sell, bakery production and operation and how to run a fresh produce business etc.
