Turkana County is a land of contrasts; there is scarcity and abundance, almost in equal measure. Did you know that the County has some of the largest deposits of underground water yet the people sometimes experience water shortages, leading to loss of livestock through drought and famine, and sometimes the people starve too? And did you also know that Lake Turkana has some of the best sandy beaches in Kenya, yet tourists are not as many as you would find in Mombasa, Malindi and elsewhere?

Mount Kenya University knows that Turkana County is like a lion, a sleeping lion that if awakened will roar loud and take its place in the jungle as king. The commissioning of an ultra-modern MKU Campus in Turkana County affirms the university’s commitment to expanding access to affordable, flexible and quality higher education to all corners of this great land.

The MKU Campus is located along the Lodwar-Kitale road and is Kenya’s first university Campus to be established in the resource-rich North Western part of Kenya. Residents can now acquire quality and affordable higher education.

Residents of Turkana County and its environs will now acquire the appropriate skills to benefit from the many economic opportunities available in oil, gas, wind power, solar, ICT, agriculture and water industries with the establishment of this industrious institution.
