Kenya Airways Appoints New Managers

Changes have been made to the top management team of Kenya Airways (KQ) following a directive from the senate for it to be given the bailout money it requires after announcing losses of over Sh25 billion.

The senate had proposed the sacking of Kenya Airways CEO Mbuvi Ngunze and prosecution of his predecessor Titus Naikuni. The two have been accused of leading and executing an expansion plan that lest the airline in great losses and debts.

After being asked to fill some vacant positions that were within the management, KQ went ahead last month and promoted four managers to positions that existed and others that were newly created, while one executive manager resigned so as to give the airline the space it needed to effect some of the changes that the government had asked for.

Mr. Thomas Omondi has been appointed to the position of Director of Strategy and performance and also in an acting capacity of the airline’s commercial Director. Mr. Omondi was the head of human resource at the carrier, headed the operations control, cargo operations and also general manager of Jambo Jet, before securing his new position.

His new roles will among others include reporting to the chief executive officer and overseeing the airlines turnaround strategy. He will be crafting strategies that will help save the airline which is currently relying on debts so as to carry out its activities.

The position of Director of ground services has been given to Francis Musila who previously held the position of the company’s head of operations. Another appointee is Mr. Tom Ogendo as the head of passenger services and he previously held the position of the manager ground services and equipment. Emmy Letting has been appointed to head the newly created corporate quality division.

In order for the airline to continue operating normally, it has been disclosed that a huge bailout is urgently needed to repay some debts that it has and also for funding some underway operations.
