Kenya Fourth Most Corrupt Country in East Africa

The Latest report by Transparency International Kenya has shown that Kenya is the fourth most corrupt country on East Africa.

Burundi tops the list of bribery prevalence at 19 percent, followed by Tanzania 19.3 percent, Uganda is third with 17.9 percent then Kenya takes the fourth position with 12 percent. The least corrupt country in East Africa is Rwanda whose bribery prevalence lies at 2.9 percent.

Corruption has been one of the main issues the current government has had to deal with. President Uhuru’s administration has been faced with huge corruption scandals led by top government officials. The report by Transparency International attributed increased corruption to poor reporting and safety mechanisms in the country.

The report further disclosed that only 7 percent of Kenyans were open to report corruption cases in 2014 showing that Kenyans may have lost trust in the relevant bodies that deal with curbing corruption.

Kenya was ranked 145th out of 174 nations in 2014 on the corruption index. The media and the civil society have been on the forefront in helping fight corruption. The private sector also joined hands with the public sector to find ways to end corruption in Kenya.

Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore yesterday declared his wealth publicly as a way of helping fighting corruption through transparency. Corruption slows down development in any country, therefore, all of us need to join hands in fighting it so as to save our country.
