Chase Group Foundation cares for the African child as well as for the African mother. Cases of mothers losing their lives during childbirth have been on the increase in Africa and Kenya has not been left behind. One of the major causes of these deaths has been poor infrastructure especially roads that often make it hard for these mothers to access health facilities on time. There is also an acute shortage of midwives in the country and many mothers who deliver at home have been always been at risk of losing both their lives and that of the infant.

It is because of this that Chase Group Foundation set up the annual #SaveAMum walk. The major goal of the #SaveAMum walk is to raise money which is then channeled towards the training of midwives who will in turn help in saving the African mother during child birth.

This years, 2015, the #SaveAMum walk took place on the 28th of March 2015 at Ngong Forest Sanctuary and funds were raised. These funds were aimed at helping in the reduction of the maternal mortality through the training of 15,000 midwives across Africa by the end of 2015.

The midwives who have been trained through the programme are graduating today 9th of December 2015 at the Amref Health Africa. This is the 29th graduation ceremony. The theme of this year’s graduation is towards lasting health change through higher education, training, innovation and technology.

Among those who are going to graduate today are those who undertook short courses, diploma in community health, diploma in nursing as well as diploma in CHR.
