The Valentine’s Day came on the 14th of February and went the same way it had come but not without being marred with funny and hilarious incidences that will linger in minds for some time.
The Valentine’s Day is a global day that is set aside for loved one to meet, appreciate their relationship, commemorate on the past and plan for the future.
During this special day, businesses usually witness a boom and this year was no different as those who deal in flowers, cards and dresses smiled all the way to the bank.
On the 13th of February for instance, the streets of Nairobi were already bursting with a beehive of activities as people moved from one retail shop to another in search of gifts for their loved ones.
For a very long time, this day has often been seen as a day for men to take their girlfriends or wives out but during this year’s Valentine’s Day, in most quarters, both men and women treated each other equally.
However, there were some funny incidences that marred this day and this was evident by the messages that were doing rounds on the social media.
Some men who did not have money for instance, it is said that forced themselves into a police station so that they could get arrested, just to run away from their girlfriends and maybe be released on a Monday. News whether they have been released so that they go and offer explanations to their girlfriends is yet to reach our news desk.
Some men are said to have misplaced their phones knowingly and so calls from their spouses were not going through but rumor has it that the calls will start going through today.
Since this day fell on a Sunday, some people remembered the roads leading to their various churches where they took up various roles and organized a series of prayer meetings that lasted the whole day.
The day was actually filled with fun but for most Kenyans, it came at a time when most of them were experiencing some economic hardships. With the children going back to school and with the government imposed Excise Duty things were surely not smooth for most people.
