The solar energy dealer M-Kopa has set out to provide more than one million households in Kenya with solar-powered digital flat screen televisions by the year 2017.

This also sets those who manufacture and sell the pay to watch set boxes a run for their money as they are likely to lose many customers to the new set on the market.

This is a great step to ever been witnessed in Kenya is the program now targets most Kenyans who live below one dollar a day to have an alternative form of energy as well as having an opportunity to access information as well as television programmes from the television set.

According to Mr Moore, the Chief Executive for M-Kopa, almost 69 percent of Kenyan adults are not aware of what goes on in the country in terms of current affairs because of either lack of access to power or failure to afford TV sets, most of which are beyond reach for many households.

Something that will come as a reprieve is that those who will own the Television set will enjoy a total of 26 channels free of charge. According to Mr. Moore, the firm is out to make access to a television available to Kenyans in two major ways;

  1. Turning a bottle of kerosene that goes for 45 shillings to a complete TV cabinet for 50 shillings per day for 12 months.
  2. For diesel generators to get a modern M-Kopa 400 kit at 125 shillings daily for 12 months.

For those interested in purchasing the M-Kopa 400 kit is that it comes with a 16 inch television set, a radio, a solar panel, aerial, two head lights and a torch and one need a deposit of 7,999 shillings through M-Pesa and then thereafter 125 shillings daily for 12 months.
