Difference Between Kenya Nutritionists & Dietitians Institute and KEBS Mandate

KNDIKEBS
1.Set and enforce standards of professional practice for nutrition and dietetics.

The KNDI Regulations are specific to the Professional training in Clinical nutrition facilities practice, Food trade/processing etc

KEBS is the custodian of the national standards
2.Enforce a program of quality assurance for the nutrition and dietetics professionEnforcement of the standards
3.Any food company or individual trading in food products that have nutrition claims must be put through quality and accreditation checks.

Regulates claims on human health/nutrition i.e. on labeling esp. when not scientifically proven

Product certification
4.Standard specification targets the end user i.e. Nutrition throughout the life cycleOffers training courses
5.Targets the wellness of the end userUse Codex alimentarius /WTO for international trade
6.Research into and provide public education and awareness on nutrition and dieteticsEducation and training

 

Note:

  • KNDI is specific to Nutrition and dietetics for the wellness of individuals in the Lifecycle, while KEBS have more general regulations and bigger scope in terms of Products and services.
  • KNDI works closely with KEBS and all other standards bodies those that are relevant to Developing standards in Nutrition and Dietetics.

KNDI’s Mandate: The Kenya Nutritionists & Dietitians Institute provide for the training, registration and licensing of nutritionists and dieticians; to provide for the regulation of the standards, and practice of the profession; to ensure their effective participation in matters relating to nutrition and dietetics, to regulate the trade in food and food supplements, and for connected purposes.
