Dry and Green Maize Retailing Cheapest in Eldoret

The average price of a 90kg bag of maize in the country is Sh.2,840. In Kisumu, the bag is being retailed at Sh.3,200, Sh.2,900 in Mombasa, Sh.2,800 in Nakuru and Sh.2,700 in Nairobi. Eldoret is where dry maize is retailing at the cheapest price as it is being sold at Sh.2,600. These prices vary from each other with not more than Sh.100. The difference between the Highest market price and the lowest market price is Sh.600 only.

Green maize on the other hand is being sold highest in Mombasa where a 115kg bag goes foe Sh.5,600 while the lowest price in the market is Sh.1,480 in Eldoret. Both dry and green maize retails cheapest in Eldoret town, which means that this is where is in pleanty, given that this town is in a county that is known for high production of maize and it is also bordering Trans-Nzoia County that still is a high producer of the crop.

Finger millet market prices are abit high today as a 90kg bag in Eldoret is being retailed at Sh.7,200 and this is where it is being sold highest, while the cereal is cheapest in Nakuru, where one can get the bag at Sh.5,800.

There is scarcity of wheat in the country as it lacks in most towns apart from Eldoret, where a 90kg bag is being sold at Sh.3,300.
