Social media, the world wide lovechild of web keeps evolving by the day. It all began as a site for socializing but has since evolved into a multi billionaire industry with billions of active users from all over the world.
Facebook owning the largest share of more than 1.6 billion users in the world gets most of its revenues from advertising sales. Facebook user statistics show that there is power in the ‘like button’ it is the greatest feedback mechanics tool of all time. The like button is the first point of interaction between a brand and its fans. If your brand is not visible on Facebook you’ll soon be losing more than you ever imagined.
WhatsApp is currently ranked as the second largest social media platform with more than 1 billion global active users. It is affordable and has since competed with text messaging systems of communication. With WhatsApp you can send text, images, videos or documents at your convenience. The biggest challenge so far with is managing WhatsApp Groups as a brand, how far can you pursue this platform? WhatsApp Groups currently work for small business but the question is how will big business utilize this platform in coming years?

Instagram the photo-sharing social networking platform enables users to take pictures, edit them to their preference and share at their convenience. Video sharing which was introduced in 2013 has become popular by the day, especially in the entertainment industry. Currently it is said to have more than 500 Million active users globally.
As the third largest social network in Kenya, Instagram majorly benefits from other social networks like Facebook and Twitter which allow users to share their content. The most-followed celebrities on Instagram include Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian and Beyonce. Instagram has since been argued as a platform where many choose to display their lavish lives but from a marketing perspective it is very useful for advertising. Celebrities are now used by brands to endorse their products and services, an opportunity that any brand can leverage.

Though overtaken by Instagram, Twitter is the most effective social media platform for creating online social buzz. With more than 1.7 Million users, Trends on Twitter are said to be the most discussed conversations in the world. Research shows that live tweeting has become popular for events including conferences, sports events among many other events. Twitter online buzz for is becoming popular by the hour with television series, Game of Thrones being ranked as one of the most discussed shows in the world.
