Monday in Focus: The Stocks at the NSE

The bourse reopened on a positive trend on Monday with all indices in the green territory save for the NSE All share index, which declined by 0.45 percent to close at 139.38 points.

The NSE-20 share index advanced marginally by 0.13 percent to close at 3268.41 points while the NSE 25 Share Index followed suit, garnering 0.44 percent to perch at 3708.65 points.

Market capitalization equally gained 0.60 percent to close at 2,019.31 points; a clear indication of improving market conditions whilst equity turnover increased 2.28% to close at KES 0.509 billion. The A/D ratio strengthened to 1.43x from 0.95x.

The Banking sector edged up by 1.47 percent in the Monday’s trading session, emerging as the best performing sector at the start of the week. The performance was largely attributed to the positive share price movement of 7 banks; amongst the top three included; NIC Bank Ltd (NSE: NIC), KCB Group Ltd (NSE: KCB) and Equity Group Holdings Ltd (NSE: EQTY), which recorded a share price appreciation of 6.47, 2.52 and 2.40 percent respectively.

Other banks capping the gainers chart included; National Bank Ltd (NSE: NBK), Barclays Bank Ltd (NSE: BBK), I&M Holdings Ltd (NSE: I&M) and Stanbic Holdings Ltd (NSE: CFC).

Actively Traded in Shares on Monday

NIC Bank Ltd (NSE: NIC) was the most actively traded stock on Monday accounting for 43.13 percent of the total market value traded activity. Safaricom Ltd (NSE: SCOM) was the second most actively traded counter, accounting for 13.23 percent of the total market turnover.

Gaining Stocks on Monday

Eveready E.A Ltd (NSE: EVRD) capped the gainers chart; increasing by 8.51 percent to close the day at 2.55 shillings. NIC Bank Ltd (NSE: NIC) came second; gaining 6.87 percent to close at 35.00 shillings.

Losing Stocks on Monday

ARM Cement Ltd (NSE: ARM) emerged the day’s top loser; edging down by 7.26 percent to close the day at 28.75 shillings whereas E.A Portland Ltd (NSE: PORT), followed suit declining by 6.48 percent to end the day at 25.25 shillings.
