A Night Too Hard To Forget As Death Reigns

The night of Saturday in wake of Sunday will forever remain in the minds of many Kenyans and millions other around the globe as hundreds of people lost life on a single night.

Within a span of 24 hours, more than 250 people had died in tragic sudden deaths around the world. In some like Kenya and Nigeria accidents caused deaths while in some like Somalia, Turkey and Egypt caused by terror attacks.

In Kenya, a lorry carrying inflammable substance rammed into more than ten vehicles, burst into flames and killing more than 40 people most of whom were travelling to Nairobi. It is said that the driver of the lorry, with a Ugandan registration, hit a bump near Nairobi at Naivasha, lost control and rammed into cars causing a harrowing incident that is still fresh in the minds of those who witnessed the incident.

In Somalia, at least 29 people were killed when a bomb blast rocked a busy port in Mogadishu. Majority of those who died were laborers at the port who were busy looking for their daily bread.

In Egypt, a blast rocked the Coptic Cathedral Church killing at least 25 people and wounding 49 others. Most of those who died were women and children who were worshiping.

In Turkey, Istanbul, a twin blast rocked a football stadium, killing at least 39 people leaving more than 150 others injured.

In Nigeria, Uyo State, more than 160 people were killed when a roof of a church collapsed with hundreds of others injured.

This festive season, roads in Kenya often claim thousands of lives and there is need for both drivers and travelers to be cautious this festive seasons.
