Albert Mugo Re-appointed as KenGen’s MD

The Kenya Electricity Generating Company Ltd (KenGen) has re-appointed Albert Mugo as the managing Director and CEO for another one year.

Eng. Mugo, who is a professional engineer with extensive experience in the Energy Sector across the value chain including production, project management, power system planning, financing and tariff formulation, took office from the January 4th, 2017. Before his re-appointment, he had been serving the company at the same capacity from January 2014.

Since his appointment as Managing Director & CEO of KenGen in January 2014, Eng. Mugo has steered the Company in the growth of generation capacity in Geothermal and Wind to the current KenGen installed total capacity of 1,640MW which is about 70 percent of the national generating capacity.

Among the duties assigned to Mugo include overseeing a number of new projects which are at various stages of development starting with 140MW Olkaria V geothermal project whose construction is expected to start this month.

The Board stated that they believe with no doubt that under the leadership of Eng. Mugo and with their support, that of the management and staff, KenGen will continue progressing and being successful in its good to even greater transformation.

Before his first term at KenGen, Mugo had previously served at the Kenya Pipeline Company, Kenya Power. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Management, both from the University of Nairobi. In 2012, he completed the Advance Management Programme from Strathmore Business School. He is a registered professional engineer and a member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya.

The Board urged the management, staff and other stakeholders to continue offering Albert with the needed support so as to grow the business.
