Telkom Kenya Appoints Two more Senior Officials

Clare Ruto has been appointed as the new Chief Legal and Regulatory Affairs Officer of Telkom Kenya together with Nicholas Mruttu who takes the position of the Chief Sales Officer, Mobile Divison.

The new appointments are said to have been made for the purposes of building the firms leadership bench strength; fortifying its operations and customer service excellence aligning it to its transformation agenda.

Clare has over 20 years’ experience in the legal and regulatory environment in Africa with demonstrable experience in formulation and successful implementation of strategy.

She brings with her a wealth of experience in the telecommunication industry: Safaricom where she was the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer and at Celtel Kenya (now Airtel Kenya) serving in various capacities: Company Secretary and Director Regulatory Affairs, Regional Regulatory Affairs Director for Celtel International B.V. in charge of 6 operations and Corporate Affairs Director for Celtel Kenya Limited.

Until her appointment, Clare was the General Manager for Regulatory Affairs, East Africa at Multichoice Africa. For 5 years, she was responsible for providing strategic direction for the region on regulatory issues. She was also part of the team who took part in shaping policy direction in Africa and in particular, the various East African countries during the digital migration and analogue switch off period on the continent.

Clare also previously worked at the Communications Commission of Kenya (now the Communications Authority of Kenya) which she joined from the Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (KPTC).

She holds a certified advanced Master’s Management Program from the London Business School, a Bachelor of Law from the University of Leeds, England and a Bachelor of Education from Kenyatta University. She is also a certified Public Secretary and an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

Prior to joining Telkom Kenya, Nicholas held senior leadership roles in the telecommunications and FMCG sectors, most recently with Safaricom Limited and Coca-Cola Kenya where he was responsible for Customer acquisition, Distribution and Trade Marketing; Strategy and Business Performance and Consumer Marketing respectively.

With over 17 years of work experience, Nicholas also worked with British American Tobacco (BAT) from 2001-2008, where he served in various capacities: Head of Trade in Angola, Trade Marketing and Development Manager in Mozambique and Marketing Operations Manager in Kenya.

He holds a Global MBA from the United States International University Africa (USIU-A) and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Sociology from the University of Nairobi.
