IEBC Manages 62 Percent of the Targeted 6 Million New Voters

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has released the number of new voters in the just concluded new mass voter registration.

IEBC has added 3,782,089 new voters in its database this being 62 percent of the initial upper 6 million new voters target and 95 percent of the initial 4 million new voters target.

A total of 1,001,819 of voters applied to transfer from one polling station to another with Nairobi County registering the highest number. According to IEBC, some areas had more transfers than the number of new registered voters.

The electoral body is also set to begin the registration of prisoners as voters from Wednesday. Statistics show that there are 49,867 prisons in 118 prisons in Kenya.

IEBC had targeted to register a total of 6 million new voters in an exercise that received a huge backup from politicians who were keep to bring in more new voters from their perceived strongholds.

The commission has also called on political parties to start  submitting their Party Nomination Rules in an exercise that kicked off on February 20th  and expected to be closed on March 2nd, 2017.
