Sustainable Energy Expo kicks off promoting Energy Efficiency

Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) together with Ministry of Energy and Petroleum have officially opened the Sustainable Energy Expo which features energy efficiency technologies used by local companies.

The Sustainable Energy Expo will for the next three days showcase new innovations and processes for energy efficiency whilst explore ways of financing manufacturers towards a green economy.

Energy PS, Eng. Joseph Njoroge noted that the Government is keen on supporting industry in its efforts towards energy efficiency and conservation helping to reduce the amount of carbon emissions, avert climate change effects and achieve Kenya’s vision 2030 goals on energy efficiency.

“We need to embrace energy efficiency as a nation in order to save on energy costs and achieve vision 2030. KAM has played a key role in steering this course to ensure that industries and domestic users take up energy efficiency measures. That will ensure we achieve our sustainability goals. To this effect, the Government has channelled Ksh. 360 million towards energy conservation and efficiency, enhancing its commitment in finding solutions in renewable energies,” added Eng. Njoroge.

Speaking at the forum, KAM CEO, Ms. Phyllis Wakiaga stated that expo is an initiative aimed at securing the future of the industry through green financing and rolling out investments in sustainable clean energy and energy efficiency utilization.

“The Clean Energy Expo, themed “13 years on towards a green economy”, seeks to create awareness for both industry and domestic users on clean energy solutions available locally,” added Ms. Wakiaga.

The Sustainable Energy Expo also seeks increase sustainability of the manufacturing sector goals in terms of energy. KAM continues to work with partners such as Kenya Power, French Development Agency (AFD) and Ministry of Energy and Petroleum in helping  industrial players develop green energy and energy efficiency projects.

“Through projects such as Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Energy Finance Programme (SUNREF), we are providing companies and project developers with financing options to develop renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.

Apart from SUNREF, KAM through the Centre for Energy Efficiency (CEEC), KAM has continued to undertake energy audits for firms to help them realize their energy needs while at the same time recommend measures that help them reduce their energy consumptions in their daily operations,” concluded Ms. Wakiaga.
