Pan African & Afghanistan Media Ratings for 1st Quarter 2017

The GeoPoll media measurement service launched in two more countries at the beginning of Quarter 1 2017.  As Radio and TV continue to be most popular broadcast media in Africa, GeoPoll has analyzed the top TV and Top Radio Stations in seven African Countries for the first quarter of 2017.

The African media landscape is growing ever more diversified. Brands and broadcasters no longer need to make decisions based on outdated information risking valuable advertising dollars.  The GeoPoll overnight media ratings deliver daily insights on audience measurement data for TV, Radio, and Print.

The GeoPoll Media Measurement service has been examining ratings and audience share for the top stations in Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Afghanistan to provide media insights into markets where data is scarce.

The 1st Quarter 2017 Report Highlights

Uganda
Amongst the top 10 radio stations in Uganda, Capital FM takes the lead in audience share with an average of 8.7 percent followed by Radio West with a share of 4.4 percent, NTV consistently takes the leading spot nationally in ratings during peak hours with its highest ratings being at 9 PM with an average of 9.11.

Kenya
The top spot is still maintained by Citizen with an audience share of 16.2 percent. The second highest share of listeners is Radio Maisha with 12.8 percent. Citizen leads with the highest share of 33.7 percent of viewers followed by KTN at 11.1 percent then KTN News at 8.8 percent nationally.
Nigeria
Wazobia FM is the leading radio station in ratings throughout the day nationally. Its highest ratings are between 2-4PM with an average of 3.66. There is a stiff competition between Channels TV and AIT in ratings nationally during peak hours.
Tanzania
Clouds consistently take the lead in ratings nationally throughout the day with its highest ratings being between 2-4PM with an average of 8.11. There is a stiff competition amongst the TV stations in Tanzania during peak hours. However, from 8-9:00 PM, ITV takes a dramatic lead in ratings nationally.

Ghana
There is stiff competition between Adom FM and Peace FM on the ratings nationally during peak hours. There is stiff competition among UTV, Adom TV, and TV3 during the peak hours. Adom TV emerges to get the highest ratings nationally between 7.30-8.30PM.

Ethiopia
FBC Radio takes the lead throughout in rating except at 8-10PM where there is a tie with EBC FM ADDIS 97.1 with a rating of 6.25. KANA TV is in the lead throughout the peak hours with its highest rating at 8.30PM with 12.95.

Afghanistan
Arman FM takes the lead throughout with its highest rating at 8-10AM being 6.77. There is a stiff competition between Khurshid FM and Azadi Radio. TOLO TV station leads in rating throughout the peak hours with its highest rating at 8 PM with 11.92.
