Tomatoes Retailing Highest in Eldoret and Lowest in Embu

A 64-kilogram bag of tomatoes was retailing at an average market price of 5,200 shillings across the country. Eldoret had the highest market price for the same quantity as it went at a total of 6,800 while Embu had the lowest, going at 3,240 shillings.

A 126-kilogram bag of cabbages, on the other hand, was being sold as follows: 5,040 shillings in Embu, 3,700 shillings in Mombasa, 2,500 shillings in Kitale, 2,200 shillings in Eldoret, 1,680 shillings in Nairobi, 1,500 shillings in Kisumu and 1,200 shillings in Nakuru.

Carrots, dry and spring onions, chilies and capsicums were also available in the market and the table below gives a summary of their market prices in selected towns:

TOMATO

There were plenty of a variety of fruits that are in the season in the market including Passion fruits, oranges, mangoes, pineapples among others.

A 57-kilogram bag of passion fruits was being sold as follows: 9,690 shillings in Embu, 6,600 shillings in Kitale, 6,000 shillings in Mombasa, 5,700 shillings in Nairobi, 5,000 shillings in Nakuru, 3,100 shillings in Eldoret and 3,000 shillings in Kisumu.

Avocados have also flooded the market and a 90kilogram bag was being sold as follows: 3,000 shillings in Mombasa, 2,400 shillings in Nairobi, 2,200 shillings in Nakuru, 2,000 shillings in Embu and Kisumu respectively, 1,800 shillings in Eldoret and 1,300 shillings in Kitale.
