Supersport Ready for Diamond League and IAAF World Challenge

The continent’s track and field stars will continue their pursuit of the qualifying standard times for the world championships in London later this year as well as Diamond League points when they take to the track in the Rome leg of the Diamond League Series and the IAAF World Challenge League in Hengelo this week.

Both meetings will be broadcast live on SuperSport.

The Diamond League is first up on Thursday and features some mouth-watering clashes, none more so than in the men’s javelin. World champion and Olympic silver medallist Julius Yego, from Kenya, will be looking to achieve his first throw over 90m for the year as a mark of accepting the gauntlet thrown down to him by Olympic champion Thomas Rohler. Rohler threw a monstrous 93.90m in Doha last month, the longest of the past 20 years.

Live broadcast of the meeting starts at 7.45pm CAT with the Yego-Rohler duel starting at 8.35pm on SS7HD and SS9.

The action moves to Hengelo in the Netherlands on Sunday for the World Challenge League.
Africa’s athletes to look out for include Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor (100mW), Luvo Manyonga (long jump), Carina Horn (100mW), Sunnette Viljoen (javelin), Anaso Jobodwana (200m), Jo-Ane van Dyk (javelin) and Antonio Alkana (110mH) all from South Africa. The Botswanan trio of Onkabetse Nkobolo (400m), Boitumelo Masilo (800m) and Lydia Jele (400mW) will also be in action.
