Breaking News: Suspected Al’Shabaab Attacks in Lamu County

Police officers this morning battles with suspected Al’Shabaab militants in Lamu in the coastal region of the country.

The attackers believed to be Al’Shabaab militants, burned and completely destroyed Pandanguo Police Post located in Lamu West.

The attackers struck at 5 am and commandeered the officers’ vehicle and destroyed the Safaricom communication mast, wrote the Nation.

The struggle continued till 10 am.

Coast regional police commander Akello Odhiambo confirmed the incident.

“I’m yet to get any details. Our team is on the ground now” he said.

According to Pandanguo headman Adan Golja, gunshots were heard coming from the police post at around 5.30 am forcing villagers to run for their lives.

The number of casualties is unknown.

It’s not the first time that we are witnessing an attack in the area, back in the days of Mpeketoni attacks, Pandanguo was again in the headlines for being attacked.

There’s no official comment on who conducted the attack but its highly suspected to be Al’Shabaab.
