Kenya’s Interior Cabinet Secretary General Joseph Nkaissery is Dead

Kenya’s Interior Security Cabinet Secretary Major General (Rtd) Joseph Nkaissery is  dead announced Kenya’s State House on Saturday.

Nkaissery, 67, died shortly after being admitted at the Karen Hospital in Nairobi.

Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua in a statement announced the sudden demise of Retired General Joseph Nkaissery who died on the morning of Saturday, July 8.


“It is with deep sorrow and shock that we announce the sudden passing on of Interior CS Retired General Joseph Nkaissery,” announced Joseph Kinyua.

The CS last made his public appearance when he attended the National Prayer Service at Uhuru Park Nairobi on Friday 7th July, where he accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Before going to Uhuru Park, he had chaired a series of security meetings at his Harambee House office, according to officials in the ministry.

Naissery was born on 28th November 1949. He was also a senior elder of the Maasai community.
The late Gen. Nkaissery also served as the Kajiado Central Member of Parliament from 2002 -2014 and Assistant Minister for Defense from 2008-2013 in the Kibaki coalition government.

He was appointed from the opposition to take charge of the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government in 2014, to replace Joseph Ole Lenku.   

The remains of the deceased are at the Lee Funeral Home.
